Since the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, the city is still in gloom and doom.
It has been almost one year and half since Hurricane Katrina swept everything in New Orleans, Louisiana. “Rebuild a stronger and bigger city than before the disaster.” That’s the mayor’s enthusiasm of reconstruction of New Orleans. However, the population of the city remains around 20,000 which is more than half of original population of 45,500. The reason behind this seems to be complicated application process for reconstruction funds and a steep rise in construction expenses. Make the matter worse, only vicious crimes came back to the city. Bumper stickers and posters saying “ENOUGH!” can be seen in the city of New Orleans. Residents of the city have been fed up with numerous crimes happening within the city. In the first week of the January, 2007, the rate of murder in the city skyrocket to one murder case every single day. 3,000 residents demonstrated against crimes. The situation of the city is one of the worst in the U.S. Concrete plans need to be taken immediately.
